Inspiring Innovation, Collaboration and Growth

About Us

Rural Alberta’s Development Fund was incorporated as a not-for-profit company under Part 9 of the Companies Act (Alberta) in 2006. It was created to fulfill a commitment by the Government of Alberta to support rural communities, regional alliances and organizations in kick starting projects that would contribute to the betterment of rural Alberta.

At start-up, the company was given $100 million by the Government of Alberta to invest in programs that would address rural challenges and opportunities. Since opening its doors in October, 2006, RADF has invested $68.7 million in 60 projects.

We are changing our strategic direction and organization so we can do more to help rural communities build the capacity and leaders they need to thrive. We are creating a service arm to complement our existing funding program. Money that remains after fulfilling our project funding commitments (about $30M) will be used to leverage new investment from public and private sources and to finance RADF's operations in the future.

The goal is to invest $30M over the next five years in community capacity building projects and secure a total of $100M from public and private sources by 2020. More details concerning our new service program will be provided as they are finalized. We expect to complete our transition to two separate but complementary program streams by April, 2010.

Our vision and mission remain the same.
